Drive in Blue Crab lunch at Logger head Turtle Point

2013-09-17

Woke up before dawn to see the crew members cleaning.  It had rained last night and the crew had to cover everything and then in the morning dry things so we could enjoy the views.  There are ten of us and four crew members.  They are taking wonderful care of us;  all our needs are taken care of without even asking.

Pam enjoying the morning view
Feeling the morning breeze, watching the sun rise and hearing the waves made the start of the day magical.  After breakfast we took an even smaller boat towards the land.  We then meandered through the river filled with reeds, to the “Blue Crab Drive in”.

They were catching crabs and we ordered several per person and watched the Logger Head Turtles (special turtles who breed here and then make their yearly journey to the Pacific Ocean).

We  went on to see the ruins of the Roman city of Kuanos.  Did you know that the word “Protocol” means “important Butt”?   In the Roman theaters there were seats reserved for important people. These had  back rests ( refer to the picture) and  were called Protocols.

The ruins had the necessary  theatre, Agora, church, fountain and homes and were  home to 50 to 80 thousand people at its peak time.

Back on the boat, we sailed south for three hours to anchor at a point near Cleopatra’s baths. Cleopatra and Anthony are said to have honeymooned here. We are spending the night here. Swam for almost an hour ( hopefully will sleep well tonight).  Had a wonderful dinner of fresh fish ( BBQ) , Seaweed and sesame halva ( as I said, no meal is simple here :)  ).
Home Sweet Home
It is fun to see how many words and food are common between the Turkish language and Hindi ( Urdu actually) . We found Kaju ( cashew) , Badem ( almonds), Chay ( tea) , Dunya ( world) and of course thank you, Insha Allah, Masha Allah and many others.  Enjoy the day and Insha Allah, I will be in touch tomorrow.
